Technology, Meditation, and a Habit of Going Deep

Some fun facts about me.

I have spent most of my professional life working with complex technology: networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure, software, cloud platforms, artificial intelligence, and the architectures that connect them.

At the same time, I have maintained a long-standing interest in Buddhist meditation and the practical investigation of the mind.

At first glance, those subjects may appear to have very little in common.

For me, however, they are connected by the same underlying approach: understand things deeply, test assumptions, examine how they actually work, and keep going until the explanation makes sense.

That is what this website is about.

My Technology Background

Length, breath, and depth.

I have worked in the technology industry for around three decades across engineering, architecture, consulting, pre-sales, product management, and technical leadership roles.

Much of my career has involved large-scale networking and cybersecurity systems, particularly environments where reliability, performance, security, and architecture matter.

Over the years, my work has expanded from traditional networking and security into cloud infrastructure, automation, software, Kubernetes, AI infrastructure, generative AI, and AI security.

Today, much of my professional focus sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

I am particularly interested in subjects such as:

  • Artificial intelligence and generative AI
  • AI infrastructure and AI factories
  • AI security and governance
  • Cybersecurity architecture
  • Networking
  • Cloud and data centre infrastructure
  • Kubernetes and containers
  • Linux and NixOS
  • Python and software development
  • Infrastructure automation
  • Distributed systems
  • Technical architecture
  • Product strategy
  • Emerging technologies

I have spent much of my career learning technologies from the inside rather than treating them as black boxes.

That usually means experimenting, building labs, reading documentation, testing assumptions, breaking things, fixing them, and eventually understanding why they behave the way they do.

I have also earned several advanced industry certifications over the years, including three Cisco CCIE certifications, TOGAF, and other networking, architecture, security, and AI-related credentials.

My professional work has also resulted in patented inventions in networking and ongoing invention work in AI and cybersecurity.

But this website is not intended to be a catalogue of certifications or job titles.

It is a place to write about the ideas, technologies, experiments, lessons, and technical problems that I find genuinely interesting.

Why I Write About Technology

Technology changes quickly, but the most useful knowledge is usually deeper than learning the latest product interface.

I am more interested in questions such as:

  • Why was a technology designed this way?
  • What problem is it really solving?
  • What happens underneath the abstraction?
  • Where does it fail?
  • What assumptions does the architecture make?
  • How would I prove that something actually works?
  • What is marketing, and what is engineering reality?
  • How can complex subjects be explained simply without making them inaccurate?

Some articles on this site will therefore be practical tutorials.

Others will explore architecture, design decisions, experiments, industry trends, or lessons learned from working with technology.

And occasionally I will simply document something interesting because I spent far too much time figuring it out and would rather not have to rediscover it later. šŸ˜„

Meditation

TThe other major part of this website is Buddhist meditation.

My interest here is primarily practical rather than ceremonial or devotional.

I am interested in meditation as a systematic exploration of attention, concentration, perception, mental activity, and experience.

The subjects I expect to write about include:

  • Samatha
  • Vipassanā
  • Jhāna
  • Mindfulness
  • Concentration
  • Buddhist meditation techniques
  • Practical meditation problems
  • Understanding mental processes
  • Meditation experiences and observations
  • Buddhist teachings related to practice
  • Questions about mind and consciousness

These articles are not intended to present meditation as lifestyle branding, wellness therapy, yoga, or New Age spirituality.

They will focus primarily on Buddhist meditation practice and the ideas surrounding it.

Some articles may discuss traditional teachings. Others may examine terminology, translations, meditation methods, or questions that arise when ancient descriptions are interpreted through a modern analytical perspective.

Two Very Different Fields, One Way of Thinking

Technology and meditation occupy very different parts of human experience.

One deals heavily with machines, software, mathematics, networks, infrastructure, and engineered systems.

The other involves direct observation of the mind and experience.

Yet I tend to approach both in much the same way.

I like to understand things for myself.

I am uncomfortable stopping at a superficial explanation simply because it is widely repeated.

If something interests me, I tend to follow it downward:

What does that actually mean?

Then:

Why?

Then:

How do we know?

Then:

Can I test it?

And usually several more layers after that.

That habit has followed me through technology, engineering, programming, architecture, AI, meditation, and many other subjects.

This website is where I intend to document some of those explorations.

What You Will Find Here

The site is deliberately divided into two major areas.

Technology

Long-form articles, technical explanations, architecture discussions, experiments, tutorials, lab notes, and observations covering AI, infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, software, and related technologies.

Explore Technology ->

Meditation

Articles exploring Buddhist meditation practice, samatha, vipassanā, jhāna, mindfulness, Buddhist teachings, and questions about the mind.

Explore Meditation ->

You can also browse everything together through the Articles section.

A Personal Publication

This is a personal website rather than a corporate publication.

The views expressed here are my own.

Some articles may be carefully structured technical guides. Others may be exploratory notes, opinions, experiments, or reflections.

My aim is not to write about everything.

It is to write about things that I find sufficiently interesting to investigate deeply.

If you happen to find those things interesting too, welcome.
